Mantua Lamplighter Landings renovated Mantua apartment complex refurbished with NDS, federal dollars

By Don Jovich

Record-Courier staff writer MANTUA -- With the help of Neighborhood Development Services Inc., the Lamplighter Landings apartments have been fully renovated.

Located on Sontag Lane, the multi-family development now has a new look, both inside and out. The complex's 30 residential units are in top shape, according to NDS.

"Everything came out very well," NDS project manager John Capitoni said. "The units were updated and now offer residents much more accessibility."

NDS communications director Erica Sadaj said the agency has been working on the project since 2006.

"It's approximately a $3 million project," she said. "Today, it's completely occupied."

Among other renovations, Capitoni said all of the appliances in the new apartments are energy efficient.

A recent ribbon-cutting ceremony at the apartment complex was attended by many local officials, including the Portage County commissioners and NDS representatives, among others.

The project was developed by the Community and Economic Development Corporation, the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, Four Points Architectural Services and the U.S. Department of Agricultural Rural Development housing program.

The Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing specializes in working with developers, nonprofit corporations, metropolitan housing authorities, community action agencies, community-based organizations and others wanting to develop, rehabilitate or preserve affordable housing, most often utilizing the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program.

NDS is a community and economic development agency serving Portage County and other Northeastern Ohio communities.
